- 1. Immerse the test strip in water for 1 second and then remove it. Do not shake off any water drops on the test strip.
- 2. Hold the test strip horizontally in your hand with the test pads facing up for 15 seconds.
- 3. Determine pH and free chlorine values by color comparison.
The ideal pH value should be 7.0 - 7.4 and the chlorine value should be at least 0.5mg/L.

Accuracy of pH measurement
Small differences in the pH reading between the water tester (using phenol red tablets) and the PoolTest test strips can never be completely avoided.
In general, the method with Phenol red tablets are the more precise method!
However, the simpler and faster measurement with the test sticks often outweighs the lower accuracy.
The pH value in swimming pool water does not always have to be accurate to the decimal place!
In practice, it is sufficient if the pH value is within a certain range.
The ideal range is between 7.0 and 7.4. This accuracy can be achieved with both test methods .
However, if the display differences are larger, you should check why the display differences occur.
Prerequisite for an accurate display, especially with the PoolTest test strip, is handling:
The test strip must be removed from the water horizontally so that the water drop remains on the test pad!
Otherwise the values are not reproducible.
If the drop is accidentally shaken off, the moisture remaining on the test pad is not sufficient for a measurement.
The way the test strips are stored also influences the accuracy of the measurement :
If the container was not properly sealed, moisture can enter and the test sticks quickly become inaccurate.
